The Rigby Classic Rugby Jersey
THE RIGBY
The serendipitously simultaneous arrival of rugby zealot AS Langley at ‘Maritzburg College in 1896 and Todd’s foundation of Michaelhouse in Pietermaritzburg that same year was the spark igniting the flame of schoolboy rugby in the province. Todd’s early appointment of Cambridge Rugby Blue, JCA Rigby, onto his staff cemented a rugby-playing tradition at Michaelhouse which has enjoyed passionate support for over 125 years.
The educational credo of the time, that “brain power has to be exercised and that by setting the blood freely in motion, rugby, especially, is beneficial to the brain” was banner beneath which Rigby set about making his mark on the young Michaelhouse.
Rigby was the very epitome of Old School, and 127 years later we salute his contribution to Michaelhouse with a rugged, classically cut rugby jersey perfectly adapted to any occasion, from reclining on the banks of Meadows to a backyard braai.
